101-Year-Old Former U.S. Army Nurse Receives Quilt of Valor

One of our area’s oldest residents is being honored this weekend. Genevieve Peterson, a former U.S. Army nurse that held the rank of sergeant during World War II received a Quilt of Valor on Saturday. Family and friends nominated Genevieve for this honor. On Saturday, they were present at the Heather Haus Assisted Living Center in Blooming Prairie as she was handed her quilt.

Genevieve cared for wounded soldiers and patients with tuberculosis during her time in the service.

She will celebrate her 102nd birthday in August. She is also known as an avid reader and a huge Timberwolves and Twins fan.
